FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We understand that every family has questions when choosing a school. Here you'll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Montessori education and the Hilton Montessori experience.
What is Montessori education?
Montessori education is a child centred approach to learning that encourages independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Children learn through hands on experiences in a carefully prepared environment designed to meet their developmental needs.
How is Montessori different from traditional education?
Montessori classrooms encourage children to learn at their own pace, explore their interests, and develop independence. Teachers act as guides, supporting each child's individual learning journey rather than directing every activity.
What ages do you cater for?
Hilton Montessori caters for children during their early years of development. Please contact us directly for information about the specific age groups and classes currently offered.
How do children learn mathematics in Montessori?
Children use specially designed Montessori materials that allow them to physically explore mathematical concepts before moving to more abstract learning. This helps build a strong understanding and confidence in mathematics.
How do I as a parent, identify an authentic Montessori school?
Schools must follow the 6 core principles of Montessori. All Montessori schools MUST be members of the South African Montessori Association. For a full list of the member schools, kindly head to www.montessori.org.za
How do you manage discipline in a Montessori classroom?
Montessori focuses on respect, consistency, and guidance rather than punishment. Children learn self discipline, responsibility, and consideration for others through clear expectations and positive role modelling.
How can parents support Montessori learning at home?
Parents can support their child's development by encouraging independence, providing opportunities for practical life activities, reading together, and fostering curiosity about the world around them.
What does "Help me do it myself" mean?
Children use specially designed Montessori materials that allow them to physically explore mathematical concepts before moving to more abstract learning. This helps build a strong understanding and confidence in mathematics.
